Big News! Some Florida Schools are Ignoring the ACT Science Scores for Admissions...

What Changed?

Starting this year, Florida colleges don't care about your Science score on the ACT test anymore. That's right - you can still get into college even if you don't do well on the Science part!

Which Colleges Made This Change?

Every single public college in Florida changed its rules. Here are the main ones:

  • Florida State University (FSU) - This is where the Seminoles play!

  • University of Florida (UF) - Home of the Gators

  • University of Central Florida (UCF) - The Knights

  • University of South Florida (USF) - The Bulls

  • Florida Atlantic University (FAU) - The Owls

  • Florida International University (FIU) - The Panthers

  • University of West Florida (UWF) - The Argonauts

How Does This Help You?

Before this change, you needed four test scores to get into college:

  1. English

  2. Math

  3. Reading

  4. Science

Now you only need three scores:

  1. English

  2. Math

  3. Reading

But Wait - There's One Important Thing!

Even though colleges don't need your Science score, you might still want to take it. Here's why:

If you want to get the Bright Futures scholarship (that's free money for college!), you still need to take the Science part. The state of Florida still wants to see that score to give you scholarship money.

What Should You Do?

Here's what we think you should do:

  1. Take the whole ACT - including Science - if you want scholarship money

  2. Don't stress as much about the Science part since it won't hurt your chances of getting into college

  3. Focus more time studying English, Math, and Reading since those are the scores that matter most for getting in

Why Did This Happen?

The people who make rules for all Florida colleges decided together that the Science part wasn't needed anymore. They want to make it easier for students to get into college.

Also, the company that makes the ACT test decided to make the Science part optional starting in 2025. So Florida colleges said, "Okay, we don't need it either!"

The Bottom Line

This is either awesome news for you or bad news for you.

Good luck with your tests and college applications!

This change affects all Florida public universities starting with students applying for the 2025-26 school year.
