Alex Malekan

Hello, my name is Alex. I have over 10 years of tutoring experience in mathematics and several years of classroom teaching experience as an Adjunct. I graduated from the University of Florida in 2006 with Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Physics. I also went on to earn a Master’s degree in Mathematics from UF in 2009. I was formerly a competitive chess player who would travel the state to play USCF-rated (United States Chess Federation) tournaments. I achieved a peak USCF rating of 2080.

I specialize particularly in Algebra 1/2, Trig, Precalculus, and Calculus. My tutoring philosophy is based on a quote from George Polya (a famous mathematician) —- “If you can’t solve a problem, then there’s an easier problem you can’t solve. Find it.” That is to say, I believe in building a strong foundation of fundamental skills that a student can continue to draw upon for the rest of his/her education.
