Savannah Mikus

K-12 Japanese & Chinese

Savannah Mikus was a military child, making Eglin AFB her last of many moves. She attended Ruckel Middle School and Niceville High School: graduating with 4 years of Chinese Language, the Cambridge AICE Diploma, the AP Scholar Award, and was inducted into the Chorus Hall of Fame for her years of volunteer service and participation in OPUS ONE. After graduation, she pursued her Bachelor's of Chinese and Japanese at Florida State University. She studied abroad in both Tianjin, China and Nishinomiya, Japan. During the strenuous circumstances of the pandemic, she earned her Master's in East Asian Languages from FSU with experience as an instructor of record in Japanese language courses. Upon graduation, she was hired as a Lecturer at the University of Florida where she taught Japanese language, history, and literature. She believes everyone has the potential to learn East Asian Languages and seeks to open doors of understanding between East-West cultures. In her free time she enjoys watching anime, playing video games, reading, and translating manga. She has two cats: Kira (meaning "bright") and Haru (meaning "Spring"). Her husband works as a critical care nurse and is her greatest source of laughter and joy.
